Titanium and Art
Titanium is one of those rare materials that does not easily show it's true form. Titanium starts out as a black sand and is not in metallic form prior to processing. In fact it took some of the best metalluergical minds of the twentieth century to bring titanium into its metallic form and ready for use in submarines, high performance aircraft and even replacement body parts, golf clubs and high end money clips.
The U.S. Armed Forces were the driving force behind the titanium industry in its infancy and spent huge amounts of federal money to support the refining and processing of the metal. The SR-71 Blackbird was one of the first planes made from almost exclusively titanium and it was this plane that really brought titanium into the spotlight and imagination of all those who dream of what is possible.
